What is Coaching?

“Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential” - The International Coach Federation (ICF)

How Would You Describe Coaching to a Friend?

Here’s how one of my clients described the experience: “I would describe the experience as a journey that a person has to choose to take. Rayna first described the process as being ‘all about me’, but, I discovered, not in the way that most people would expect. It’s taking a hard look at myself, if I want, and seeing myself how others see me. And deciding if I’m happy with who and what I am, or if I want to change for what I consider the better. It requires reflection and really looking at situations, the causes and effects. And uncovering what ‘do-loops’ of perception may be getting in the way of understanding what is really happening, the quintessential ‘baggage’ we all carry around. And do I to choose whether or not to carry that baggage to the next place? It’s about me taking a new road when necessary by stretching beyond my comfort zone.

The experience is about taking ownership of my choices and following through. It’s about understanding my core values, and what that means for the foundation of my life, now and in the future. And it’s about realizing I don’t have to be miserable, just because someone else perceives a need for me to be somewhere or for me to be or do something that doesn’t fit with those core values.

Ultimately, it’s a journey of evaluation, contemplation, change, and it takes a bit of courage to begin. The experience will make you look at yourself in an entirely different way, if you choose to.”
